Reading books, and possessing a love for reading, often times can start at home. Below, you’ll find five recommended books we’re sharing that make reading out loud fun and also provide a quick and easy way to sneak in learning opportunities that may enhance literacy and language skills. 1) The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt and Oliver Jeffers
Each crayon tells a different tale. This book offers a great opportunity to learn colors and have your reader describe the pictures they see using colors.
2) Press Here by Herve Tullet
This book provides an interactive experience by giving its readers an opportunity to participate. For example, directions such as, “Press the yellow dot” or “Shake the book” are embedded throughout the story incorporating actions into the reading experience.
3) Creature ABC by Andrew Zuckerman
A popular book among early readers and animal lovers! This alphabet book focuses on teaching readers the different sounds letters can make.
4) I Spy Letters by Jean Marzollo and Walter Wick
Each page, in this book, has two large letters surrounded by pictures of items that start with these letters. Readers can figure out which of the items begin with each letter. This book provides a great opportunity to expose the reader to phonics and work on expanding language.
5) Hop on Pop by Dr. Seuss
Hop on Pop is part of the Random House Beginner Book series and is written to introduce basic phonic concepts to the reader. You’ll be entertained while reading the wonderful rhymes while viewing the colorful, and fun, illustrations Dr. Seuss stories are known for!
