At KGH Autism Services, we are committed to providing compassionate and expert support for families navigating a new autism diagnosis for their young child. Our goal is to help your child develop the skills they need to succeed in a kindergarten classroom, ensuring a positive and smooth transition.
Your child will develop a successful form of communication and learn to effectively express themselves and understand others. Once these foundational skills are established, your child will have opportunities to practice and generalize these skills in small group settings, where they can learn to interact with peers and engage in cooperative activities.
We create structured and unstructured opportunities for your child to engage with peers, teaching them how to play with others, share, take turns, and understand social cues. These skills are first developed in 1:1 sessions and then expanded upon in small groups, preparing your child for the social dynamics of a typical classroom.
Play is a critical part of learning for young children, and we place special emphasis on developing both toy play and social play skills. We help your child learn how to engage with toys appropriately, developing multi-step toy play sequences fostering creativity and problem solving. We introduce social play, where your child learns to play alongside and with peers, eventually learning to engage in complex play themes. These skills are essential for building friendships and participating in group play activities in kindergarten.
As your child progresses with KGH, they will learn the critical skills necessary for thriving in a classroom environment. This includes following group instructions, participating in circle time, waiting for their turn, and engaging in cooperative learning activities. By practicing these skills in a supportive, small group setting, your child will gain the confidence and ability to successfully navigate the routines and expectations of a larger kindergarten classroom. Our goal is to ensure your child feels comfortable and competent in group settings, laying the foundation for successful integration into a typical school environment.
One of the most empowering aspects of our approach is teaching your child how to become an active, natural learner. We focus on developing your child’s ability to explore new concepts, solve problems, and engage with new material on their own. This involves teaching them observational learning, how to seek help when needed, stay focused on tasks, and use the tools and resources available to them. By fostering a love of learning and the skills to pursue it independently, we prepare your child not just for kindergarten, but for a lifetime of learning.
Our Early Learners Program is designed to equip your child with the foundational skills needed for success in a kindergarten setting. Key focus areas include:
We begin with a thorough, individualized assessment conducted by our interdisciplinary team. This includes Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), speech therapists, and occupational therapists. This initial evaluation allows us to craft a tailored intervention plan that addresses your child’s unique strengths, needs, and interests.
Our approach combines Naturalistic Developmental Behavioral Interventions (NDBI) with play-based Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to provide an effective and engaging learning experience.
In addition to NDBI and play-based ABA Therapy, your child will receive direct therapy and essential support from the rest of your child’s team.
Our facility at KGH Autism Services is designed to provide a versatile and enriching environment where your child can thrive. We offer various types of rooms tailored to meet the diverse needs of our learners, including sensory calming rooms, play theme rooms, small group rooms, and preschool and kindergarten classrooms. These spaces are designed to help your child practice and generalize the skills they learn in therapy, ensuring they can apply them across different contexts.
In addition to our indoor spaces, we have fenced-in outdoor play areas where your child can enjoy safe, supervised and therapeutic play, crucial for well rounded development. Our state-of-the-art facility is more than just a space—it’s a dynamic learning environment where your child can explore, grow, and prepare for the challenges and joys of kindergarten.
We value the role of family in your child’s development and work closely with you to ensure consistency and support across all environments. We provide training, resources, and ongoing guidance to help you reinforce skills at home and prepare for kindergarten.
As your child approaches kindergarten age, we collaborate with you and your child’s future school to ensure a smooth transition. We share progress reports, strategies, and recommendations with teachers and support staff to facilitate an environment where your child can thrive.
At KGH Autism Services, we are dedicated to empowering your child with the skills they need to succeed in a kindergarten classroom and beyond. We celebrate every milestone with you and offer the expertise and support needed during this important phase of your child’s development.
